Ontario Bioscience Innovation Organization (OBIO)
How BlueSky Helped Position OBIO as a Leader in Canada’s Health Technology Ecosystem
The Ontario Bioscience Innovation Organization (OBIO) sits at the centre of Canada’s life sciences and health technology ecosystem, helping transform promising medical innovations into real-world solutions.
The Challenge
OBIO operates at the intersection of health technology commercialization, policy, and industry development, a space that naturally brings together a wide range of stakeholders, from startups and investors to healthcare leaders and government decision-makers. As its role continued to grow, OBIO needed to raise visibility around major initiatives and funding announcements while reinforcing its credibility as more than a program delivery organization but a trusted leader helping shape the future of health innovation and commercialization in Canada.
The Strategy – What BlueSky Did
BlueSky developed a strategic and tailored communications program built around three high-profile initiatives.
For the launch of the Early Adopter Health Network (EAHN), BlueSky developed messaging tailored to healthcare professionals, public audiences, and government stakeholders, positioning the network as a catalyst for system-wide innovation.
BlueSky also provided media relations support for OBIO’s collaboration between Bruyère Hospital and Able Innovations, highlighting the evaluation of an automated patient transfer system. OBIO was framed as a connector between clinical need and real-world commercialization – exactly the positioning the organization needed with investors and policy audiences.
When OBIO’s business development skills program received a $5.25 million provincial investment, BlueSky developed communications materials and media Q&As, coordinated a joint press conference with the Ontario Minister of Labour, and executed earned media outreach to ensure the announcement received the national and regional coverage it warranted.
The Results
- National and regional media coverage secured across all three major initiatives
- Broad awareness generated among investors, policymakers, and academic research and development stakeholders
- Successful coordination of a high-profile provincial funding announcement with the Ontario Minister of Labour
- Strengthened positioning of OBIO as a leader in medtech commercialization, workforce development, and health innovation policy
The Impact
Through consistent storytelling, milestone-driven media engagement, and messaging aligned with OBIO’s policy and commercialization goals, BlueSky helped elevate OBIO’s profile across Ontario’s health innovation ecosystem. The work reinforced OBIO’s role not just as a program delivery organization, but as a central voice in shaping how health technologies are developed, adopted, and brought to market in Canada.
